Buffalo County Health Department administers the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection agent contract to include licensing, issuing of permits, inspections, and conducting complaint and foodborne outbreak investigations.
Our purpose is to ensure a standard of quality among facilities licensed by the Buffalo County Health Department. In doing so, the Buffalo County Health Department will provide the citizens and visitors of Buffalo County with a service of quality assurance and safety while visiting these establishments.

Retail food establishments serving meals are placed into four categories based on food safety risks. A retail food establishment that is serving meals that are pre-packaged and TCS only prepares individually wrapped, single food servings, which are packaged off-premises by a licensed processor, with the on-premises activity limited to heating and serving. Example: whole frozen pizzas.

Employee Illness
Infected food workers present a severe food safety risk. Prevent foodborne illness in your licensed establishment. *The person in charge is required to notify the health department if any food workers are known to be infected with:
- Norovirus
- Hepatitis A Virus
- Shiga toxin-producing E. coli
- Shigella
- Salmonella
- Typhoid Fever
